Kavala is the second biggest urban centre in Macedonia in a location of strategic importance and great development potential. The city is characterized by the picturesque seaside and the interesting architecture, combining neoclassical buildings with more modern ones. It is a major tourist attraction of northern Greece with many beautiful beaches and touristic sites. It is situated in Kavala Bay, across the island of Thassos.
Kavala is connected to the Egnatia motorway and is in one and a half-hour drive from Thessaloniki (160 km). It has its own airport as well as bus station.

How to reach Kavala and IHU University Campus
There are two common ways to reach Kavala by plane.
The first option is through the International "Macedonia" Airport of Thessaloniki (SKG), which offers daily direct flights from major European cities. You can travel from "Macedonia" airport to Kavala either:
- By car, the journey takes approximately 1.5 hours via the Egnatia Motorway.
- By taxi, with an estimated fare of around € 130 (one way). The trip takes less than 2 hours.
- By bus, with a round-trip ticket costing less than € 30. The bus journey usually takes around 2.5 hours, plus an additional 30 minutes to 1 hour to reach the bus station from the airport either by taxi or by bus (Line 1X/1N). The second option is to take a connecting flight from Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" (ATH) to Kavala "Megas Alexandros" Airport (KVA). During the summer season, there are also several charter flights from various major European airports. The taxi fare from Kavala Airport to the city center is approximately € 35, and the ride takes about 20 minutes.
